This photograph, taken during Wilson’s last months of good health before his series of debilitating seizures and strokes, was selected by Josephus Daniels as the frontispiece for the former Navy Secretary’s heroic biography of the 28th president. It was a favorite photo of Wilson’s—he autographed copies for several VIPs, including the thousand-member crew of the USS George Washington following his four transatlantic voyages aboard the nation’s largest luxury liner in 1918–19.
